Coworking at Industrious
Joining a coworking space has been one of the best & most terrifying things I’ve ever done.
If you would’ve told me six years ago that I was going to be in a position to have my own office space, I hands down would’ve laughed in your face & told you that sh*t is expensive. Affording a place to live is hard enough, and with Chicago’s rising rental markets, I genuinely thought I’d forever work out of various coffee shops, real estate offices & my car.
As my business grew & my sanity in a room full of brokers talking on their phones all day was slipping away, I noticed coworking spaces were becoming prevalent in Chicago. I went back and forth for about a year deciding whether or not I should make a plunge into the trendy coworking environment, admiring their well-designed spaces & collaborative feel and then immediately feeling discouraged by the price tags I was seeing. Still not sure of what to do, I would host Sip & Learns in various coworking spaces with the hope of getting a better feel for each company & their tenants. This went on forever to the point where I had a spreadsheet of coworking spaces in the city…yes, an entire spreadsheet.
After many lunch & learns, I finally stumbled upon Industrious Fulton Market. While I loved their sleek space & amenities, it was really the focus on collaboration that sold me. It was definitely pricey, but sitting down and meeting with the on-site manager, I was immediately asked how my business (& myself) would contribute to this integrative environment. The genuine concern of their tenants’ growth & synergy blew me away. I was sold.
I’m so thankful to have found a workspace, I genuinely enjoy coming to & want to gush about. From the office neighbors that have become friends to the businesses I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with, I’m truly spoiled. We’re served complimentary breakfasts in the mornings & Dark Matter Coffee all day. There are happy hours on Thursdays & always new events and speakers/brands coming through. We’re offered free on-site manicures & massages, and there’s even a gym downstairs. Did I mention the dope rooftop deck overlooking all of downtown Chicago? Yeah, they have that too.
Don’t get me wrong, I still can’t believe I’m able to have a space to call my own, and the rent…well, that sh*t is definitely expensive. But, being able to connect with like-minded individuals/businesses and use this amazing space they’ve created is more than I could ever ask for. And, let’s be real…does it motivate (read: force) me to continue to work harder everyday? You have no idea.
Coworking is definitely a great option whether you’re an individual looking to use the space and are tired of looking for outlets at coffee shops or you’re a growing company looking for a space that encourages work/life balance. With options ranging from common space use to 100+ employee office suites, Industrious has expanded with eight office locations in the Chicagoland area.
